Duplex Stainless Steel Gate Valve for Seawater and Chloride Service
WDL Valve duplex stainless steel gate valves are designed for reliable pipeline
isolation in corrosive, chloride-rich and demanding industrial environments.
The valve provides full shut-off performance and is suitable for applications
where high mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion are required.
Duplex stainless steel combines two metallurgical phases: ferritic stainless steel
and austenitic stainless steel. The ferritic phase improves yield strength,
intergranular corrosion resistance and chloride stress corrosion cracking
resistance. The austenitic phase contributes toughness, ductility and weldability.
Compared with austenitic stainless steel grades offering similar corrosion
resistance, duplex stainless steel normally contains lower levels of nickel and
molybdenum. This can provide a cost-efficient material option for large industrial
valves and corrosion-resistant pipeline systems.

Why Use Duplex Stainless Steel?
Duplex stainless steel is selected when a project requires a combination of
corrosion resistance, strength and long-term mechanical reliability. Its higher
yield strength can support robust valve construction, while its austenitic and
ferritic structure provides a balance of toughness, weldability and resistance to
chloride-related corrosion mechanisms.
A duplex stainless steel gate valve is primarily used for isolation rather than
continuous throttling. For accurate flow regulation, a dedicated control valve
should be selected according to the process conditions.
