Duplex Stainless Steel Valve Manufacturer

WDL Valve supplies duplex and super duplex stainless steel ball, butterfly, gate, globe, check, plug and discharge valves for seawater, desalination, offshore, oil and gas and chloride-bearing process systems. Materials commonly evaluated include Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507.

Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507

Duplex stainless steels combine austenitic and ferritic phases, providing higher strength and improved resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking compared with common austenitic stainless steels in many applications.

Super duplex grades are considered where chloride exposure, temperature or corrosion severity is higher. Grade selection must account for the actual water chemistry, temperature, pressure, fabrication route and required corrosion allowance.

Applications

Duplex valves are commonly evaluated for seawater intake and cooling, reverse-osmosis desalination, brine, offshore production, produced water, firewater, marine systems, chloride-containing chemicals and pulp or paper process lines. Valve performance also depends on solution annealing, heat treatment, welding control, surface condition and avoiding contamination during fabrication.

For system-level guidance, read the Seawater & Desalination Valves guide and the Duplex Ball Valve guide.

Specify More Than the Body Grade

A duplex valve datasheet should identify the body, bonnet, ball or disc, stem, seat, fasteners, overlay and gasket materials. It should also define the casting or forging specification, required ferrite range when applicable, heat-treatment condition, NDE, PMI, corrosion testing and certification scope.

  • Fluid composition and chloride level.
  • Normal, design and upset temperatures and pressures.
  • Valve type, size, class and connection.
  • 2205, 2507 or project-specific alloy designation.
  • Wetted trim, fasteners and sealing materials.
  • Actuation, fail position and operating frequency.

Duplex Valve FAQs

What is the difference between 2205 and 2507?

Super Duplex 2507 generally provides higher alloy content, strength and resistance to chloride pitting than Duplex 2205. The application conditions and project specification determine which grade is appropriate.

Are duplex valves only for seawater?

No. They are also considered for oil and gas, produced water, chemical processing, pulp and paper and other environments requiring strength and corrosion resistance.

Why must fabrication controls be reviewed?

Incorrect heat treatment, welding or contamination can reduce corrosion resistance even when the nominal alloy grade is correct. Material certificates and project inspection requirements should be defined before production.
