Plunger Flow Control and Pressure Regulating Valve
WDL Valve supplies DN150–DN2000 plunger flow control valves for precise flow and downstream pressure regulation. Multiple cage and vane trim designs are available for high differential pressure, large-flow and water hammer control applications.
Description
WDL Valve plunger flow control valve provides controlled flow and downstream pressure regulation in water transmission, reservoir, pumping and industrial water systems. Its axial-moving cylindrical plunger creates an annular throttling area, giving predictable regulation under high differential pressure and large-flow conditions.
Product Overview
The valve size and internal throttling arrangement are selected according to the system pressure, maximum and minimum flow rates, required pressure reduction and operating conditions. Unlike a conventional control valve, the plunger valve guides the medium through a streamlined, axisymmetric flow passage and controls the outlet through a continuously changing annular opening.
One-piece and segmented body designs are available. The combined plunger and multifunction seat can be configured for shut-off, fine regulation, high pressure drop or high flow. Cage-type options include LH perforated-cylinder, LL double-layer perforated-cylinder, SZ multi-slot and XT special designs. Vane-type options include the E venting seat and S vane-ring seat. Project-specific trim can be engineered when standard arrangements do not meet the hydraulic requirements.
How the Plunger Valve Works
A crank-and-slider mechanism moves the cylindrical plunger along the pipeline centreline. As the plunger approaches or moves away from the seat, the annular flow area changes and regulates flow or downstream pressure. The streamlined internal passage guides the water evenly, reduces hydraulic resistance and limits head loss. The controlled closing profile is fast during the initial travel and slower near the seat, helping reduce pressure surges and water hammer.
Main Components and Control Options
The main valve consists of the body, outlet body, valve seat, plunger, cage or vane ring, stem, crank, connecting rod, bushings, guide rails, plunger support and sealing rings. Available automation packages include an electric actuator, PLC control system, pressure transmitters and flowmeters.
