Zirconium Check Valve

WDL Zirconium Check Valve provides automatic prevention of reverse flow for acetic and formic acid processing and selected sulfuric acid systems. Connections, trim and operation are selected to the project conditions.

Description

Zirconium Check Valve

WDL Zirconium Check Valve provides automatic prevention of reverse flow for process systems that need resistance to many strong acids and corrosive chemical mixtures. Zirconium is used for severe acid duties where stainless steels and many nickel alloys cannot provide an acceptable corrosion rate.

Design Options

ItemAvailable specification
MaterialZirconium 702, 705 or project-specified grade
Functionautomatic prevention of reverse flow
ConnectionsWafer, lugged, flanged or butt-welded
OperationSelf-actuated swing, lift, piston or dual-plate mechanism
Design basisAPI 594, BS 1868, API 598 or project standard

Typical Applications

  • Acetic and formic acid processing
  • Selected sulfuric acid systems
  • Chemical reactors and transfer lines
  • Pump discharge protection
  • Backflow prevention in process lines

Selection Notes

Fluoride-containing media, hydrofluoric acid and some oxidizing halides require special review because they can attack zirconium.

Confirm installation direction, minimum flow, cracking pressure, slam risk and allowable pressure drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why select Zirconium for this check valve?

Zirconium is used for severe acid duties where stainless steels and many nickel alloys cannot provide an acceptable corrosion rate. Final suitability depends on the complete process conditions and the selected valve trim.

What information is needed for selection?

Provide the size, pressure rating, medium composition, concentration, temperature, connection standard, operating method and required quantity.

Send the process datasheet to WDL for material review, dimensional confirmation and quotation.
